The limestone quarries at Mickle Hill and Brier Hill in Burton Leonard were active during the nineteenth century and the southern quarry seems to have continued to burn lime for some years after 1900. At the height of production there were five kilns active on the site but I was only able to find one draw kiln in good condition and the remains of the pot from another. At one time the quarried area was shown on maps as "The Limekilns" and the approach is via Limekiln Lane.
