| The remains of four lime kilns near Middleton on Teesdale. Their history goes back to the 18th century when the first was built, with no's 2 and 3 added in the 19th and early 20th century. The most recent, now collapsed (nearest the camera) was built in 1941 to meet wartime demands. Production continued until 1960. | |
