The Old Maps website is invaluable when seeking limekiln sites but what you find on the ground 120-160 years after the maps were surveyed is often disappointing. The Caerwys Hall kiln is a good example of what little remains there may be. The low mound with a small portion of the firebrick lining of the pot was enough to confirm the location. the adjacent small quarry was filled in with rubbish. |
