| This kiln produced lime for mortar which was used to repair the sea defences along this stretch of the Caldicot levels. Limestone was brought down the Severn estuary from the Wye valley on a flat bottomed barge, which was beached nearby. The stone was then hand barrowed to the kiln. | |
