Large Red Damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula)

Tony Parker reports several teneral Large Red Damselfly at the Hillcrest Quarry (58S SJ576858) area of Moore Nature Reserve. Meanwhile Andy Harmer also found three teneral specimens at Rocksavage (58A SJ519802).

At Risley Moss (69Q SJ666918) Carol and Rob Cockbain saw a single Large Red Damselfly flying.

With strong sunshine but a cold wind blowing I decided to have a look at some sheltered areas at Newchurch Common (66E SJ607690). Here there were plenty of teneral Large Red Damselfly to be seen along with seven species of butterfly. Maybe spring really is here now.
