Denbighshire Limekilns

Limekiln high on a hillside at Bryn Goleu.

Denbighshire has vast resources of limestone with a long and continuous history of exploitation. In the north of the county a number of relatively large quarries developed with a number of commercial scale kilns. Similar developments took place close to the Llangollen Canal in the south. Elsewhere there are numerous remains of an extensive small scale limeburning industry which served local agricultural requirements.
