Teneral female Common Hawker

Whilst walking at Primrose Hill, Delamere Forest (56N SJ549670) Andrew Goodwin saw a teneral female Common Hawker. Paul Brewster was at Shemmy Moss (56Z SJ598688) and saw Brown Hawker, Emperor Dragonfly, Common Darter, Black Darter, and an aged Four-spotted Chaser. Later at Newchurch Common (66E SJ605688) he found Brown Hawker, Emerald Damselfly, Red-eyed Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly.

At Moss End (86B SJ804621) Andrew Goodwin found a late Broad-bodied Chaser with Southern Hawker, Brown Hawker, Emperor Dragonfly, Emerald Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly.

Denis Swaby was also at Warmingham Flash (76B SJ715632) and saw Emperor Dragonfly in addition to the species seen the day before.

Pete Kinsella and Andrew Goodwin both visited Warmingham Flash (76B SJ715632) and found Red-eyed Damselfly and
Small Red-eyed Damselfly
along with Common Darter and Ruddy Darter, Southern Hawker and Brown Hawker.

A male Southern Hawker was feeding around a railway bridge in Crewe (75B SJ709538). John Rayner spotted 3 male and a possible female Small Red-eyed Damselfly at Warmingham Flash (76B SJ715632) and also Brown Hawker, Common Blue Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly.

Visiting Elton Hall Flash (75J SJ724594) Dennis Swaby saw a couple of Brown Hawker and several Banded Demoiselle.

Brian Baird reports eighteen Brown Hawker at Woolston Eyes (68P SJ649882) with smaller numbers of Black-tailed Skimmer, Banded Demoiselle, Red-eyed Damselfly, and Common Blue Damselfly. Over at Warmingham Flash (76B SJ715632) Andrew Goodwin saw another couple of Small Red-eyed Damselfly.

Tony Broome spotted a male Emerald Damselfly at Wilmslow (88Q SJ860819) today. At Marbury Park (67N SJ655761) Pete Leicester saw a single Brown Hawker and lots of Ruddy Darter, Common Darter, and Emerald Damselfly.

The first Small Red-eyed Damselfly of the season were recorded today when Andrew Goodwin saw a couple at Warmingham Flash (76B SJ716632)


A rather wet Southern Hawker at Middlewood 16.7.16.

A male Southern Hawker was looking very wet at Middlewood (98M SJ947847) this morning.

Paul Brewster was at Abbots Moss (56Z SJ594689) where he saw a couple of Black Darter. Moving on to Newchurch Common (66E SJ605688) he found and Common Darter, Red-eyed Damselfly, and lots of Common Blue Damselfly and Blue-tailed Damselfly. There was also a Brown Hawker at Shemmy Moss (56Z SJ598688).

At Warmingham Flash (76B SJ715632) Andrew Goodwin found Emperor Dragonfly and Brown Hawker with plenty of Common Blue Damselfly and Blue-tailed Damselfly.

A single Brown Hawker was flying at Haydn's Pool (67S SJ660753) reports Pete Leicester. Moving on to Marbury Park (67N SJ655761) he saw Brown Hawker, Black-tailed Skimmer, Ruddy Darter, Common Darter, Emerald Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly.

Pete Leicester was at Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651753) and found a single Brown Hawker and a few Blue-tailed Damselfly.

On a visit to Saltersley Moss (88A SJ818804) Steve Hind found plenty of Black-tailed Skimmer flying.

Brian Baird reports Brown Hawker, Black-tailed Skimmer and Emperor Dragonfly at Woolston Eyes (68U SJ665886) with plenty of Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly. There was a pair of Banded Demoiselle at nearby Woolston Weir (68P SJ653886).

At Abbots Moss (56Z SJ594689) Paul Brewster saw a single Black Darter, whilst at Newchurch Common (66E SJ605688) there were emerging Common Darter.
