Lots of action reported today. At Rostherne Mere (78L SJ752839) Sheelagh Halsey saw two Emperor Dragonfly and also three Broad-bodied Chaser. Meanwhile Julie Samuels was at Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651753) where she saw Four-spotted Chaser, Banded Demoiselle and Blue-tailed Damselfly. Pete Leicester saw plenty of Large Red Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Red-eyed Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly at Marbury Park (67N SJ655761). On the Dee at Aldford (45E SJ415596) Paul Brewster found Common Club-tail and lots of Red-eyed Damselfly. there were also Variable Damselfly at Churton Marl Pits (45I SJ430565). Brian Baird went to Woolston Eyes (68U SJ665886) where he saw Emperor Dragonfly and Four-spotted Chaser.

Sheelagh Halsey ventured out in the drizzle and rain around Dairy
House Meadow (67S SJ663757) and still managed to see Banded Demoiselle, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly.

At Danes Moss (96A SJ905704) Julie Samuels found plenty of Large Red Damselfly with several Common Blue Damselfly and seven Four-spotted Chaser.

Another scorching day saw plenty of records submitted. Mike Read was at Churton Marl Pits (45I SJ430565) where he found a lot of Hairy Dragonfly and Red-eyed Damselfly with a couple of Variable Damselfly. On the Dee at Churton (45D SJ404563) Lee Wilkinson saw Common Club-tail, Emperor Dragonfly and Broad-bodied Chaser. Seelagh Halsey also saw Broad-bodied Chaser at Swettenham Meadows (86D SJ804675).
A Red-veined Darter was seen on Hilbre Island (18Z SJ184880) today.

A trip to Hatchmere (57L SJ553722) yielded a few Variable Damselfly whilst there were lots of Four-spotted Chaser at Doolittle (57K SJ543714). A marl pit at Hatton Heath (46K SJ449607) had Emperor Dragonfly, Four-spotted Chaser and losts of Azure Damselfly. Moving on to Golborne Manor (46K SJ454600) there was a single male Hairy Dragonfly and also Four-spotted Chaser. A pond at Golborne Hall (45P SJ454598) saw a male Broad-bodied Chaser with Large Red Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly.

Bob Thompson and Paul Brewster both recorded several Downy Emerald at Gull Pool (66E SJ602688), whilst Sheelagh Halsey found Red-eyed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly at Dairy House Meadow (67S SJ663757). On the Chester Meadows (46D SJ416660) Jon Wainwright discovered a teneral male Black-tailed Skimmer, first of the year for Cheshire and a first for the site too.

There were Broad-bodied Chaser, Large Red Damselfly, Red-eyed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly at Burton Mere (37B SJ314736) reports Neil Friswell. On the Macclesfield Canal at Whiteley Green (97J SJ927788) a tandem pair of Blue-tailed Damselfly were seen this morning. A pair of Banded Demoiselle were seen at Rostherne Mere (78L SJ752839) by Sheelagh Halsey.

Sheelagh Halsey was at Rostherne Mere (78L SJ752839) where there were abundant Azure Damselfly as well as a few Broad-bodied Chaser, Large Red Damselfly and Blue-tailed Damselfly. At Handforth (88L SJ8683) Hugh Everett spotted a male Broad-bodied Chaser emerging from a garden pond. Several other larvae were seen preparing to emerge. Pete Kinsella was on the Dee at Aldford (45E SJ415596) and saw a female Common Club-tail and a few Banded Demoiselle . There were more Banded Demoiselle at Farndon (45C SJ412544) and a single female Beautiful Demoiselle.

Down on the Dee at Aldford (45E SJ415596) Ian Brodie found a single Common Club-tail along with a few Banded Demoiselle and Blue-tailed Damselfly. Bob Thompson also found Common Club-tail and Red-eyed Damselfly at the same location.

The first Downy Emerald for Cheshire in 2017 was found by Paul Brewster at Shemmy Moss (56Z SJ598688) today. At nearby Newchurch Common (66E SJ605688) there were Large Red Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Red-eyed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly. John Melia called at Billinge Green Flash (67V SJ682713) and found Hairy Dragonfly and Banded Demoiselle.

With the sun shining but a stiff breeze blowing it has continued to be difficult to find anything flying.
Brian Baird explored Rixton Claypits (69V SJ685901) and eventually found a few Large Red Damselfly and a single male Azure Damselfly sheltering from the wind. Meanwhile Paul Brewster saw plenty of Large Red Damselfly at Shemmy Moss (56Z SJ598688) and a few teneral Common Blue Damselfly at Newchurch Common (66E SJ605688). Meanwhile Richard Gabb found a teneral Four-spotted Chaser at Pearson's (57K SJ546715) in Delamere Forest.
