The month ended with Sheelagh Halsey seeing Brown Hawker, Common Blue Damselfly and Blue-tailed Damselfly at Rostherne Mere (78L SJ752839).

Alison Lilley was lucky enough to see a male Keeled Skimmer at Abney Park (88U SJ860890). Andrew Goodwin was at Warmingham Flash (76B SJ716632) and saw five Small Red-eyed Damselfly. Over at Billinge Green Flash (67V SJ682713) John Beresford saw Red-eyed Damselfly, Brown Hawker and Ruddy Darter.

On the Macclesfield Canal at Middlewood (98M SJ950848) there was a teneral male Southern Hawker and two Brown Hawker. A further male Southern Hawker was flying at Peggies Lane in Adlington (97J SJ920788). At Dunham Massey (78I SJ736870) Sheelagh Halsey found plenty of damselflies including Red-eyed Damselfly and Emerald Damselfly with Brown Hawker and Common Darter.

A singe female Southern Hawker was feeding alongside the road at Street Lane, Adlington (98A SJ919818) this morning. Sheelagh Halsey saw a single Brown Hawker at Dairyhouse Meadows (67S SJ663757) and a Common Darter at nearby Haydn's Pool (SJ660753 67S).

Andy Goodwin was again at Cheshire's Close (85U SJ866588) where he saw Common Hawker, Brown Hawker, Broad-bodied Chaser, Common Darter and Emerald Damselfly. Meanwhile Sheelagh Halsey was at Old Wood, Goostrey (77K SJ754705) which yielded seven species including Brown Hawker, Southern Hawker, Black-tailed Skimmer, Common Darter and Ruddy Darter. At Woolston Eyes (68P SJ 653884) Brian Baird saw a teneral Migrant Hawker and several Brown Hawker nearby. Warmingham Flash (76B SJ716632) yielded Brown Hawker, Black-tailed Skimmer and Ruddy Darterfor Dennis Swaby.

At Rostherne (78L SJ752839) Sheelagh Halsey recorded Black-tailed Skimmer,, Brown Hawker, Southern Hawker, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly.

A female Southern Hawker was feeding in a wood at Adlington (07J SJ920788) this afternoon.

Chris Meredith reports seeing a pair of Beautiful Demoiselle at Oldcastle Mill (44S SJ470445).

A single Southern Hawker was flying at Macclesfield Riverside Park (97C SJ913746) today.

At Middlewood (98M SJ946846) I saw Brown Hawker and Common Darter flying. Sheelagh Halsey was at Swettenham Meadows (86D SJ804675) where she saw Banded Demoiselle, Azure Damselfly, Brown Hawker, Southern Hawker and Common Darter. At Hatchmere (57 SJ552720) Brian Baird found a single Variable Damselfly and also saw Red-eyed Damselfly and Black Darter.

On the eastern fringe of the county Andy Goodwin was at Cheshire's Close (85U SJ866588) where the small ponds and seepages yielded a couple of late Large Red Damselfly along with Azure Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Emerald Damselfly, Brown Hawker, Emperor Dragonfly. Broad-bodied Chaser and Common Darter. Brian Baird was at Rixton Claypits (69V SJ685901) where there were ten species flying - Emerald Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, Azure Damselfly, Brown Hawker, Emperor Dragonfly, Four-spotted Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer, Common Darter and Ruddy Darter.

Rob Dodgson reports Brown Hawker and Emperor Dragonfly at Slater's Pit, Runcorn (58L SJ547837). An unexpected sighting of Keeled Skimmer today at Burton Mere Wetlands (37B SJ314737) by Irene Blagden and Andy Hearn.

In Higher Poynton (98L SJ944838) today there were several Brown Hawker flying. Pete Leicester reports plenty of Banded Demoiselle at Rudheath (67R SJ671728) along with Southern Hawker, Brown Hawker and Emperor Dragonfly.

It is turning into the year of the Black-tailed Skimmer; I cannot remember receiving anywhere near as many records as for 2017. Pete Leicester found plenty at Neumanns Flash (67S SJ664753) and Sheelagh Halsey also saw some at Rostherne (78L SJ752839) with Southern Hawker and Brown Hawker. Over at Warmingham Flash (76B SJ716632) Andy Goodwin saw three ovipositing pairs of Small Red-eyed Damselfly. Dennis Swaby was at Maw Green (75D SJ713574) and saw Brown Hawker, Emperor Dragonfly, Four-spotted Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer, Common Darter and Ruddy Darter. A heartening record is of several Banded Demoiselle at Woolston Weir (68P SJ653887) on the Mersey when Brian Baird visited. The Mersey is now reasonably clean and supporting a good range of wildlife.

The pond at Brereton Heath Park (76X SJ799649) had just a few Brown Hawker and Common Blue Damselfly when Sheelagh Halsey visited. Over at Poynton Pool (98H SJ923845) Alison Lilley found an ovipositing female Brown Hawker. Paul Brewster saw a female Downy Emerald at Shemmy Moss (56Z SJ598688).

Brian Baird reports seeing Emperor Dragonfly, Four-spotted Chaser, Ruddy Darter and Emerald Damselfly at Woolston Eyes (68U SJ665886).

Paul Brewster reports Southern Hawker with Red-eyed Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and Emerald Damselfly at Newchurch Common (66E SJ605688) he also saw Emperor Dragonfly at Gull Pool (66E SJ602688). Additionally there was a Black Darter at Abbots Moss (56Z SJ594689). Dennis Swaby saw , Emperor Dragonfly, Brown Hawker, Banded Demoiselle, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and at Sandbach Flashes (75J SJ728595) and Andy Goodwin was able to confirm that Small Red-eyed Damselfly is once again present at Warmingham Flash (76B SJ716632).

Sheelagh Halsey was at Rostherne (78L SJ752839) again and found Black-tailed Skimmer, Emperor Dragonfly, Brown Hawker, Banded Demoiselle, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly. Alan Redley saw a Ruddy Darter at Leftwich (67Q SJ665710).

At Poynton Pool (98H SJ923845) Alison Lilley saw a female Banded Demoiselle.

Another busy day with John Beresford spotting Black-tailed Skimmer, Brown Hawker, Red-eyed Damselfly and Common Blue Damselfly at Billinge Green Flash (67V SJ682713). Moore Nature Reserve (58X SJ587858) yielded Southern Hawker, Common Blue Damselfly and Blue-tailed Damselfly for Sheelagh Halse whilst Pete Leicester took a walk around the Northwich Community Woodlands where he saw Black-tailed Skimmer. Southern Hawker and Common Darter at Neumann's Flash (67V SJ682713), and at Marbury Park (67N SJ655761) he found Brown Hawker, Common Darter and Ruddy Darter. At Poynton Pool (98H SJ923845) Alison Lilley found Black-tailed Skimmer whilst at Woolston Eyes () Brian Baird recorded Brown Hawker, Emperor Dragonfly, Four-spotted Chaser and Common Darter.

Also out and about was Rob Dodgson who called at Slater's Meadow in Runcorn (58L SJ549836) where he saw Black-tailed Skimmer, Ruddy Darter, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly and Azure Damselfly.

Brian Baird found several Banded Demoiselle on the Sankey Brook (58V SJ587916) whilst Sheelagh Halsey was at Rostherne (78L SJ752839) and saw Black-tailed Skimmer, Southern Hawker and Brown Hawker. At New Pool, Whitegate (66J SJ626696) John Beresford recorded Broad-bodied Chaser, Brown Hawker and Blue-tailed Damselfly. Paul Brewster saw Brown Hawker at Newchurch Common (66E SJ605688) and Sue Barrow found emerging Southern Hawker at Higher Poynton (98L SJ943838).
