On the moss at the side of Hatchmere (57L SJ550721) Rob McHale found single Emperor Dragonfly and Brown Hawker. There were plenty of damselflies including Variable Damselfly. Chris Storey was at Alderley Edge (87N SJ853774) and saw Brown Hawker and Emperor Dragonfly.

An Emperor Dragonfly was flying at the Marbury Park scrape (67N SJ655761) today reports Alan Redley.

Ray Collins visited Vale Royal Locks (67K SJ640705) and found abundant Red-eyed Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly. Later at Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651751) he saw Brown Hawker, Four-spotted Chaser, and a pair of Black-tailed Skimmer. At Dairyhouse Meadow (67S SJ663757) Janetter Renshaw saw a couple of Black-tailed Skimmer and several Common Darter.

On a fine sunny day Peter Shaw was out around Vale Royal (67F SJ639704) where there was a Brown Hawker with Emperor Dragonfly, and also Four-spotted Chaser, Banded Demoiselle, Red-eyed Damselfly, Azure Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly. Pete Leicester was at Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651751) where a couple of teneral Common Darter were present with Four-spotted Chaser, Common Blue Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly. There were more Common Darter and Four-spotted Chaser at Marbury Park (67N SJ655761), and Alan Redley spotted another Common Darter at Carey Park (67M SJ659749).

At Gull Pool (66E SJ600687) Dermot Smith saw three Downy Emerald with Four-spotted Chaser, Large Red Damselfly, Azure Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly. Moving on to Shemmy Moss(56Z SJ598688) he found a single Common Hawker.

In the gardens at Tatton Park (78K SK743811) Chris Storey saw Brown Hawker and an ovipositing Emperor Dragonfly.

Chris Storey reports plenty of action on the ponds at Tatton Park (78K SK745820) with Emperor Dragonfly, Four-spotted Chaser, Broad-bodied Chaser, and the first Emerald Damselfly of the year.

The first Black-tailed Skimmer of the season is reported from Burton Mere (37B SJ312736) by Roy Lowry who saw a single female. Roy also saw copulating Broad-bodied Chaser along with Large Red Damselfly, Red-eyed Damselfly, Azure Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly. Meanwhile at Thurstaston (28H SJ229840) Colin Millington saw 6 male Broad-bodied Chaser.

Paul Hill reports Southern Hawker, Emperor Dragonfly, Four-spotted Chaser, Broad-bodied Chaser, Common Darter, Azure Damselfly,and Blue-tailed Damselfly at Greenbank Farm, Crewe (75B SJ707532).

Martin Pennell reports lots of Banded Demoiselle and several Beautiful Demoiselle at Batherton Hall (64U SJ660498) on the River Weaver.

The Bioblitz at Ness Gardens (37C SJ303754) yielded 10 species reports Tony Parker. These were Southern Hawker, Brown Hawker, Four-spotted Chaser, Broad-bodied Chaser, Common Darter, Large Red Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Red-eyed Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly.

At Vale Royal Locks (66P SJ643698) John Tromans saw three male Hairy Dragonfly and just one Banded Demoiselle. There were also abundant Red-eyed Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly.

More Broad-bodied Chaser reported by Ray Collins who found at least five on a ditch at Dunham Massey (78J SJ731886) along with a few Common Blue Damselfly. Meanwhile at Marbury Country Park (67N SJ655761) Paul Hill spotted an Emperor Dragonfly on the wing.

A clearing in the woods at Middlewood (98M SJ947846) was filled with Azure Damselfly this morning and along the nearby Macclesfield Canal (98M SJ951846) I saw a single Four-spotted Chaser.

In rainy conditions Phil Corley called at Aldford (45E SJ415596) and found just a single female Common Club-tail with several Banded Demoiselle and lots of Blue-tailed Damselfly.

The beginning of the month saw a warm and sunny day which encouraged Richard Gabb to visit the Millennium Pond at Higher Disley (98W SJ984822) where he found plenty of Large Red Damselfly and Azure Damselfly, with a pair of Broad-bodied Chaser.
